Study shows plant-based diet reduces severity of COVID-19

plant-based diet reduces COVID risk

People can reduce their risk of suffering from moderate-severe COVID-19 by adopting a plant-based diet, according to a new study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ).

Over 2,000 Healthcare workers (HCWs) from six countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, USA) with substantial exposure to COVID-19 patients completed a web-based survey from 17 July to 25 September 2020. The data revealed that those participants who followed a plant-based diet were associated with a 73% decrease in moderate-severe COVID-19 symptoms.(1)

Interestingly, the CDC claims that the COVID vaccines help ‘keep you from getting seriously ill even if you do get COVID-19‘ from COVID-19 although they offer no reference for that claim. With long-term safety data completely absent, the safest way people can minimise the impact of COVID-19 is simply to avoid animal-derived foods and eat a whole-food, plant-based diet.

Incidentally, as previously reported, leading organisations including the World Health Organisation (2) and the CDC (3) have been stating for years that we can reduce the risk of future pandemics by as much as 75% by eliminating animal agriculture. This is because the emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic (i.e. they come from animals) and industrialized farming practices are ratcheting up the risk. “Livestock health is the weakest link in our global health chain,” noted the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in a 2013 report. (4).

The conclusion is simple – if you want to help reduce your risk of suffering from moderate-severe COVID-19 and help prevent a future pandemic, go vegan!
